I’ve talked about Android’s fragmentation a number of times, and the company’s latest charts show devices that have accessed the Google Play Store over a period of two weeks is growing. There are still devices going as far back as Android 1.5 – Cupcake. But they only account for 0.2% of the devices accessing the store (a similar figure – 0.5% – for Donut, a.k.a. Android 1.6). Compared to the 14-day period ending on July 2nd (it was close to 11% then), it has now grown to close to 16%....

When Windows Phone 7 was first announced, Microsoft caused some bad-water between themselves and Angry Birds developer, Rovio. I admit, we were somewhat afraid that this would lead to Angry Birds never being ported to Windows Phone 7, but fortunately that isn’t the case. As we mentioned in last week’s wrap-up, Microsoft and Rovio have made their peace and Angry Birds is officially under development for the Windows Phone 7, and now we have the release date....

We recently covered how horrible CNET’s download.com has become to install software, as everything on the site is wrapped in vicious crapware. CNET’s site isn’t the only culprit though, essentially any software aggregation site has some type of bloatware associated with it. Sites like Filehippo, Softpedia, and brothersoft all have their own version of an “install manager” that contain malware that installs toolbars and hijacks your homepage and default search engine....

39 Billion Dollars, that is the price that AT&T has agreed to pay to Deutsche Telekom for T-Mobile. The purchase won’t happen immediately as the regulators will need to approve it however, we can expect things to close up in 12 months. According to AT&T’s plans, this merger will result in 95% coverage of the U.S. with 4G LTE service (Did I mention I’ve been playing with Verizon’s 4G LTE dongle… holy c*** batman!...

Note: This works in all versions of Windows – XP and higher. Click Start and type: Task Scheduler. Hit Enter. When Task Scheduler opens, it looks daunting itself, and it is a powerful tool. I disable this annoying feature right away in Windows Vista through the current version (Windows 8.1) — I just don’t need the animation effect showing me a window opening. It might seem subtle, but when its disabled, I find that the OS seems much more responsive and snappier. Disable Windows Animation in Vista and Windows 7 Click Start and type: advanced system settings into the search field and hit Enter....

Disable Windows Defender Service in Windows 1: Click the Start Button and type Services. Click Services once it appears. 2: Scroll down and right-click on Windows Defender, then click Properties. 3: Click the Down Arrow under Startup type: and click Disabled. Then click OK a few times to apply the changes. That’s all there is to it. The next time you reboot your machine, Windows Defender will not start. Looking back, this is what I should have recommended first....
