The search giant just bought Meebo not too long ago, with the team now working on Google Plus, the company’s social network. Now, Google continues to splash cash, this time buying Sparrow, a pretty fancy mail client for Mac and iPhone. The news was announced recently on Sparrow’s website. Sparrow is an interesting email client, with features such as the use of Facebook Connect to put pictures next to the contacts emailing you, and the ability to attach files via Dropbox. In case you’re using it and you’re afraid you’re gonna lose it, worry not. The post says the software will continue to be available; but it won’t get any new features — which has a lot of Sparrow users upset. As for the Sparrow team, it’s joining the Gmail team “to accomplish a bigger vision”. It will be interesting to see what they bring to Gmail (definitely my favorite free email service). The Verge’s sources say that the idea of the transaction is not as much to build a Gmail client for Mac. But Google wants to use the team’s experience to improve the Gmail experience on all platforms. Those same sources say the transaction was done for around $25 million. Comment Name * Email *
