Rename Windows PC

Sometimes you might need (or want) to change the name of your Windows PC. Maybe you want to change it to reflect ownership, or where it’s located in your home for easier management of computers on your home network. Personally, I change the name to something that allows me to remember what I’m using it for. Whatever the reason for changing your PCs name, the process hasn’t changed since the old days of XP. For more on that, read our article: How to Change Your Windows Computer Name.

Give Your Windows Phone a Name

If you want to change the name of your phone from the default name to something more personal, head to Settings > System > About. Tap the Edit name button, name the phone what you want, and tap Save. The screenshots below are from the Windows 10 for phones tech preview, but you can change the name in Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, which is rolling out now, and the new Lumia 640 and 640 XL will come with it preinstalled. Just go to Settings > System > About.

Name Your Xbox One

When you buy an Xbox One, the standard default name is typically something like: Xbox-SystemOS. If you have two or more Xbox One consoles or just want to make the one you have unique, you can change its name, and the process is simple. For step-by-step details, read our article on how to rename your Xbox One.
